New World Order
We find ourselves to be the inheritors of a challenging and tumultuous time in human history. In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis which already rocked our world, we seem to be in the midst of societal changes which may further disorient us. Some say these changes are good, some think them to be evil…I guess we’ll have to wait for history books of the future to judge them.
However, if you are a Bible believer, there is an inheritance beyond the immediately difficult one, in which we can put our hope…that’s the righteous government and Kingdom of God coming to this planet. Our Creator’s now glorified and immortalized human Messiah will be returning from outside the Earth’s atmosphere to take over the rulership of all nations from a new throne he will set up in Jerusalem. That Messiah is none other than Jesus of Nazareth.
Just listen to these familiar words from the prophet Isaiah in chapter 2, versus 2-4. Perhaps you have never considered them to be describing something literal and future to the current time we’re living in:
2 Now it will come about that in the last days the mountain of the house of the Lord will be established as the chief of the mountains, and will be raised above the hills; and all the nations will stream to it.
Isaiah 2:2-4
2 Now it will come about that in the last days the mountain of the house of the Lord will be established as the chief of the mountains, and will be raised above the hills; and all the nations will stream to it. 3 And many peoples will come and say, “Come, let’s go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob; so that He may teach us about His ways, and that we may walk in His paths.” For the law will go out from Zion and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 4 And He will judge between the nations, and will mediate for many peoples; and they will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning knives. Nation will not lift up a sword against nation, and never again will they learn war.
In case you missed it, the coming Kingdom is no ethereal, other-worldly dimension in the clouds; it is a literal government exercising authority over all nations and all mankind:
Isaiah 9:6-7
For a child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; and the government will rest on his shoulders; and his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 There will be no end to the increase of his government or of peace on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of armies will accomplish this.
Just listen as the Creator God describes how He will begin to renew society on a global scale beginning in Jerusalem:
Isaiah 65:17-23
17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former things will not be remembered or come to mind. 18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem for rejoicing and her people for gladness. 19 I will also rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in My people; and there will no longer be heard in her the voice of weeping and the sound of crying. 20 No longer will there be in it an infant who lives only a few days, or an old person who does not live out his days; for the youth will die at the age of a hundred, and the one who does not reach the age of a hundred will be thought accursed. 21 They will build houses and inhabit them; they will also plant vineyards and eat their fruit. 22 They will not build and another inhabit, they will not plant and another eat; for as the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, and My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands. 23 They will not labor in vain, or give birth to children for disaster; for they are the descendants of those blessed by the Lord, and their descendants with them.
Friends, Jesus warned us in Matthew 24 before he was murdered, that very difficult times would come upon the whole world as men and women try to get their act together in a frenzy of chaotic activity at the end of this current age. But when these things happen we are to “look up”, and know that his return is near. No mortal human being will be able to fix the problems of this planet. It will take the immortal Messiah Jesus to personally do so at his return.
And let me end with this encouraging note for those who have been following the Biblical Jesus during this age, the one whose sinless life and death qualified him for his exalted position. The apostle John sees and hears some in heaven who are singing to the Lamb, that is, Jesus. They are singing these words, “Worthy are you to take the book and to break its seals; for you were slain, and purchased for God with your blood men from every tribe and tongue and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God; and they shall reign on the earth.”
When Jesus returns he will at that time raise the faithful dead, and they, with and under Jesus, shall begin to renew and restore society here on this beautiful planet God gave to men.
